Missed Vaccines? Catch-Up Vaccination for Children in the Philippines

A delayed vaccine does not usually mean the entire series must be restarted. The correct catch-up plan depends on the child’s age, documented doses, time since the last dose, vaccine product, and medical risk.

What parents should do now

1. Find every available vaccine record.
2. Do not repeat a dose based only on memory.
3. Book a record review with a pediatrician.
4. Ask for a written plan showing what is due now and what comes next.

Why catch-up plans are individualized

Different vaccine series have different minimum ages and minimum intervals. Some vaccines also have upper age limits or product-specific rules. That is why a generic online checklist cannot safely determine the exact next dose for every child.

If the record is incomplete

Bring hospital records, school records, old prescriptions, photos, clinic messages, and any immunization cards. The doctor may be able to reconstruct part of the history. When documentation cannot be confirmed, the plan should be decided deliberately rather than guessed.

Common reasons children fall behind

• Illness or hospitalization
• Travel or relocation
• Vaccine supply problems
• Missed appointments
• Conflicting advice
• Lost records

When to prioritize a review

• School entry is approaching.
• The child will travel.
• There is an outbreak or known exposure.
• The child has a chronic medical condition.
• The family includes a newborn, older adult, or immunocompromised person.

What to ask during the visit

• Which doses are clearly documented?
• Which doses are due now?
• What is the minimum interval before the next dose?
• Which vaccines are optional, risk-based, or travel-related?
• When should the next review be scheduled?
